When you invite the past into the present you steal the joy of today.
Do you remember that time when that person liked you, or even loved you? Do you remember that time when you business was doing so much better? Do you remember that time when you had it all together?
When you think about those things, you will see them in one of two perspectives. You will either see that things were so much better and long to have that love, business, togetherness back that you used to have and become sad in the moment because you give your joy to the past, or you will realize that if you had it before with someone else, you can have it again now with someone new. Focusing on what used to be takes away what can be.
Don’t get me wrong, it is alright to remember the awesomeness that you have had. The problem comes when you live with a limited mentality and think that you will never or can never achieve the same level of awesomeness again. We live in an abundant universe. There isn’t just one. There are as many as we need. If you used to have a lot of money, that means you already know how to get that much money and that is a good thing. If you used to have a lot of love, that means that you know how to be in love already. You have already completed half of the battle. You know how to get there. But, and it is a very big but, I cannot lie, you must be here, now, in order to get where you want to be next.
You must live in the now, in the moment, in the present, in order to live the awesome life that you were intended to live. Let the past stay where it is, in the past. Live your day with only the knowledge that you have mastered some incredible lessons in the past and are well prepared to thrive in the moment. Kick the past to the curb! Live your life as if today is a gift, because it is. You simply never know what will happen next, so living with the joy of the moment is the only logical thing that you can do. Never let your past steal the joy of your now.
Here is your affirmation for the day. Now, stand up and place your hand over your heart. Feel your heartbeat and say, “I live in the present. I embrace every moment and cherish it for the gift that it is. I have learned from my past and will embrace every moment and apply every lesson. I find joy in the present!”

This 100 days of joy project started as a result of a challenge that my wife gave to my oldest daughter. She challenged her to only post positive things, like positive things, and comment positive comments on social media for 100 days. I loved the idea! I loved it so much that I decided to write positive things for 100 days myself. Each day, I will write about different aspects of having a positive mindset.
“Comparison Is The Enemy Of Joy!”
Marketers would have you believe that you can only be happy if you have the latest beauty cream, the latest technology, the latest fashion, the latest everything. Our society is quite often in hyper-consumption mode. We grasp for things that others have in order to justify that we too are happy. We look at what celebrities look like and think, “If only I looked like them, I would be loved.” We see that the infamous Jones Family got a new and bigger house, a new car, a new TV, and they are what we need to be like. What if, at least for today, you made your decisions based on the realization that YOU ARE AWESOME! What if you asked yourself…
What does an awesome person like me want? What does an awesome person like me drive?
You then look at what you are driving and what you are wearing and the way that you look and realize that you are the goal. You are incredible as yourself. I believe that people become sad when they try to compare themselves to some standard outside of themselves. When we feel that we must be externally validated, we become frustrated with the lack of validation. The simple truth is that there are too many people out there vying for approval from their friends and family and society at large. They are trying to find a way to get others to tell them that they are special.
Why wait?! You are the perfect version of you. There isn’t anyone else out there that could pull off being you the way that you do. So, raise your right hand and move it over to the left side of your body, just above your left shoulder. Now, pat yourself on the back and tell yourself, “Self, you are incredible as you. You know that you are the best version of you and nobody can pull it off with your style. You are awesome!”
You are you as you were intended to be.
The knowledge of this will set you free.
Don’t compare to anyone but you.
For this is the only way to be true.
Live your life with joy and a smile
Seeing the good in yourself all the while
Love the clothes you wear and the head under your hair
Love your wrinkles and spots and connect the dots
You were created for greatness and purpose and life
Comparing to others just causes you strife
Choose joy and happiness and state only the positive with your amazing voice
For this is your life and it has always been your choice
I wish for you only good. Don’t let comparison to others steal your joy today. Claim the good that already exists and be thankful for the life that you have. The attitude of gratitude will change your perspective. I look forward to seeing you back here tomorrow. I am excited about you taking this journey to joy with me. Invite a friend to be happy and let’s change the world with 100 days of joy!
I recently read the book, Three Feet From Gold. Napoleon Hill told the story of R.U. Darby and his uncle who had found gold in their claim in Colorado. They did not take the time to learn about mining, but they did have some good initial luck in their quest for gold. R.U. did not initially go to Colorado with his uncle, but joined him when he returned to raise money for mining equipment and financial support to mine the rest of the gold. The initial couple of hauls out of the mine indicated that this could be the richest mine in Colorado. However, after those initial loads of gold out of the mine, the vein disappeared. The dug and dug in hopes of finding the gold, continuing on the same path of digging that they had be working. After several months of disappointment, they accepted their defeat, sold the equipment to a junk man and went home. The junk man was passionate about mining and associated with experts. He brought in a mining consultant who evaluated the mine and instructed him to dig in a new direction. Three feet from where the Darby's had been digging, the vein was picked back up and the mine produced millions of dollars of gold for the junk man.
Many would think that this defeat would have doomed R.U. to a life of disappointment. It did not! He learned a lesson from his willingness to quit and his lack of proper association. He ended up selling insurance and determined that he would never quit selling the way he quit digging only three feet from gold. He did not have the formula in his mind while mining, but he did as he went into business for himself. The formula for success that he needed, the one that brought him success and can bring you success as well is as follows...
What is it that you are passionate about and can you combine that with your talents? Do you have the faith and desire necessary to succeed? Are you willing to take action and associate with people who are experts, who have achieved what you have not? Keep in mind that in mathematics, anything that you multiply by zero (0) will end up zero. This means that if you take not action or do not associate with the right people, success is not possible.
Put this formula for success into action to make your life better and to reach the goals that you desire.
