For those of you who were told that the only way to be saved is to suffer, you were lied to. You were tricked into believing that life is supposed to be bad so that some day you will be rewarded for having a bad life. The idea that there is a God in heaven that wishes for you to be treated poorly, to be hated on earth, is simply not true. The truth is that you suffer because, at a subconscious level, you have chosen a life without joy.
I want to be clear that I am not saying that you have chosen to have a disability, or to be sick. I am saying that all of us, me included, have the choice to be filled with joy or to run from joy. Regardless of the circumstance that we find ourselves in, we can be happy. Additionally, we can't be a beacon of hope for others, even for those that we love, if we walk around looking for what we can hate or be unhappy with. Our focus has to be on fulfilling our great function, our calling. Our focus has to be on living a joy-filled life because that is the light that shines for others to see. When we live our lives in happiness, we bring salvation to the world.
The grand design for our lives was that we would stay in connection with the Spirit and be filled with joy. In Phillipians 4: 11, Paul says, "...for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am in." It is the choice to be filled with joy versus the choice to be filled with sadness or anger or any other negative emotion that makes the difference in our lives. Your function is to be happy. If you choose otherwise, please know that it was a choice. Your function is to be a light for yourself, and then a light for the world by living into what God desires for you, which is for you to be happy in all circumstances.
My challenge to you today is to smile for 5 minutes at a time, 4 different times. Then, find 10 different people to compliment. It doesn't matter if you are complimenting their outfit or their smile or their charm or their genius, just compliment them. Then, at the end of the day, I would love for you to come back and comment on how differently people reacted to you and how differently you reacted to yourself.
To Your Success,
