I remember my junior year of college at Angelo State University very well. It was the first time that I had Dr. June Smith as a professor. She was different than most of the ones that I had studied under previously. It wasn't that she really sounded different or even looked that different, though. The main thing was that she thought different than the others. Her objective was to teach us to think for ourselves. That was the part that was so different. She told us that she didn't really care about the theories themselves that we would be studying. What she cared about was how we saw the theories and what we were going to do with them. She wanted us to break free from thinking what everyone else had already thought. If our thoughts were not our own, then they were meaningless.
Too many of us don't perceive the world from our own lens. Instead, we are seeing the world through the small viewer that the world has created for us. We have been programmed to see the world as the world would perceive it instead of the way we want to perceive it. When it isn't our own view, it lacks meaning. It lacks the critical aspect of personal perspective that is necessary to correct the social conditioning that we all seem to suffer from. The world around us doesn't have the depth of meaning that we need when it is just a regurgitation of someone else's thoughts.
My frustration growing up in school was that my teachers, most of them, didn't want me to think. They wanted me to simply memorize someone else's thoughts and then feed them back on the test verbatim. I want, no I need meaning in my world. I need to create, for myself, the meaning of existence. I need to think, and by thinking, I create. I create meaning in the world around me. My world is not meaningless because I don't accept other people's meaning for my world. I create my own meaning. I will no longer accept meaningless thoughts.
Live in the moment. Love fully. Create meaning. Live as a miracle!
