“Let us not look back in anger or forward in fear, but around in awareness.”
I would say that the vast majority of the problems that I have thought that I had in my life were just in my mind. I have gotten overly stressed out when I felt that there was no way to fix my problems. When I do that, I am focusing on the fear that is in front of me. At other times, I have gotten depressed or upset because of looking backwards at what could have or, in my mind, should have been. It has always been when my focus was on something other than an awareness of the present that I lost control.
When I was a kid, I struggled with anger issues. I would get really upset at the things that I was trying to control the outcome of and wasn’t doing well at. Now that I am older, I would like to say that I am perfect, but the truth is that I still struggle with letting go. I know that all I really have control over is my attitude in the situations that I am in. When I step back and look at the resources that I have, the love that I have in my family, the friends that are there if I just ask, the community that supports me, the clients that respect me, and the place that I am in life, I am aware. I am aware of how blessed that I am and the fact that I am on the path that I have chosen.
My challenge to myself today is to be aware of the great things that are around me. It is in the awareness of the present that I find my joy. I would also challenge you to see the great things that are in your presence and in your present. Be aware of the awesomeness around you and in you today!
