Most of us have heard the saying, Thank Goodness It’s Friday. Well, I like to think of this acronym a little differently. I know that with every encounter that I have with other people, I will leave them either better or worse, but never exactly the same. So, I try to remember to be fun when I am around others. I say, Thank Goodness I’m Fun!
When I was a kid, my father was quite the prankster. While other fathers were waiting up to make sure that their kid got home safe, mine was waiting up to scare me as I got in. He loved to joke around and make people laugh. I would argue that he had at least a 99% success rate at the start of each sermon in getting people to smile. He started his sermons with a joke, and he ended his days with fun. One of his “scary moments” with me backfired on him when I was around 17 years old.
He had been waiting up to scare me after a date and was hiding behind the front door. When he grabbed me and barked at me like a dog, I jumped, turned, and punched him. He really did scare me more than I remember being scared at any point before that. I didn’t hurt him or anything, but we did both end up falling down laughing from the experience.
When we go through life trying to make others smile and laugh, we really improve the face value of the world. We make our little corner of the universe a much more pleasant and entertaining place to be. So today you have an assignment.
Go out and make somebody else laugh!
