The happiest people that I know are always striving to learn something new. They are pushing themselves to grow and change and become more than they were the day before. It is the struggle of growth and the opportunity for something more that seem to light them up.
I believe that we are holding such incredible potential inside of us. We are holding it there and keeping it from surfacing under the premise that we are all that we can be already. I hear things like, “I went to college for ‘X’ so that’s all I can do.” That simply isn’t true. It wasn’t the act of going to college that gave you the skills to do something. It was the learning and application of knowledge that gave you the skills. College was simply a vehicle to get you there.
I live with a growth mindset… the belief that more growth is always possible. The people that I know that have the most joy believe that there is always something more than they can learn that will make their life better. The folks that I know that believe that there is nothing else they can learn and life just is what it is, are the ones that are unhappy and often depressed.
My challenge to you today is to go out and learn something new. Learn a new word, a new skill, a new way of driving home, anything. Just learn!
