What we want for other people is what we ultimately want for ourselves.
That thought has really made me think about life over the last year. It can be very difficult to seek out only good for other people, particularly when they are not looking for good things for us. There is a lot of tension in this world right now. From the issue on which bathroom a person should use, to which candidate a person should vote for, to seeing people beat each other up of other people liking a different Presidential candidate, we see people seeking out the negative for their fellow man. When we think about the underlying connection that we have with each other, we can't help but realize that there is some spark of creation inside of each of us.
One of the experiments that I did a few months back was to stand on my porch and say out loud for a friend to call me that I hadn't spoken to in a while. My friend lives in another state and could not physically hear me. However, he picked up his phone and called me within 30 minutes of me telling him to without any technology. When we look at the people around us, our perspective must be that they are created from the same spark that we are created from. Because we are all made up of the same creative energy, we are all connected at a fundamental level. It is impossible to want bad for another person without wanting bad for ourselves at some level.
To desire good for everyone you encounter is to desire good for yourself. As an experiment, I would encourage you to spend the next 24 hours looking for only good in everything around you. Look for good in ALL of the Presidential candidates. Look for good in your enemy. Look for good in your boss, your coworkers, your family, your employees. Look for good in the world itself and see how much good you begin to see in you. By desiring good for everyone and everything around us, we begin to magnetize ourselves to attract good. Like attracts like. The positive light inside of you is what will set you apart from the darkness in this world. Let it shine and see what this world looks like when it is illuminated!
