"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
--Henry David Thoreau
Every day of our lives we are faced with the choice to see the good or to see the bad in the world. Both of them exist all around us. There are people that are doing horrible things and there are people that are doing amazing things. When we look at the world itself, both possibilities exist for us to focus on. When Monday hits, we can dread being responsible and going to work or we can embrace the joy of having a place to go and be responsible. When we look at the bills that we pay, we can be upset that our money is going out into the world from us or we can be joyous that we are helping to keep our economy moving. When we face struggles, we can be upset that "this" is happening to us or we can embrace the chance to grow and strengthen who we are and what we can handle.
Our happiness has never come from what is happening to us or around us. It has always come from what is happening within us. The will to be happy, to see the good in others, to develop our own potential, to make a difference, that is the choice that we make every day. So look all around you, but see what matters most. Look at the world and the people and the things in your life, but see the potential and good in everything. Adjust the lens of your focus so that your reality becomes one that you would be envious of. Live your life focused on seeing all the good that exists, and by all means, keep the negative out of focus. See what matters!
