What is your potential?

"The more we do, the more we can do."

--William Hazlett

Life is not about the end game. Life is about the process, the journey, and the challenge to grow. I remember when I started out in various activities as a kid. I would imagine being better than the greatest martial artist of the time or bigger than Mr. Olympia or more successful at my business than my competition or smarter than anyone else. When we are young or before we mature, we see our worth in the end-game. This fixation with being better than others often leads to frustration and disappointment, even depression. There is one small shift required in our thinking. That shift is to move from fixating on the end to losing ourselves in the process.

It is only in the process that we find our growth. For the weight lifter, it is the daily discipline of working out correctly and patiently at the gym. For the business owner, it is creating time to focus on the business and its strategic growth and then devoting time to carrying out that growth plan. For the salesperson, it is daily reaching out to potential customers, making the presentations and noticing each aspect of what is happening at that moment. It is about being consistently in the moment in anything we do.

When you are caught up in thinking about work when you are at home and home while you are at work, you serve little purpose to either side of your life. When you are focused on winning the deal instead of staying fully present and immersed in the process, you are less of who you could be. Fully immerse yourself in each moment of your day. Be present in each conversation. Be present in carrying out your tasks. Let go of what you cannot control. You cannot control how others react to you. You can, however, control your mind and your actions. You can be consistent in doing the thing that you wish to be the very best at. You can devote time and energy to reaching your potential.

My challenge to you is to spend at least 1 hour per day doing the thing that is in your zone of genius. Whatever it is that you are passionate about, devote time to it. Don't wait until "some day" to do the things that make you feel alive. Today is your day. Now is your time. Simply do more of what you wish to be great at and feel into the moment. You will be amazed at how quickly you advance your potential.

Be present!
