What Gets You Out of Bed in the Morning?

It seems like a straightforward question. What gets you out of bed in the morning? Is it the thought of breakfast, the promise of coffee, the opportunity to start fresh today? Maybe you’re excited to do something or go somewhere. Is it a sense of obligation, a commitment to routine, or the need to make money? Whatever your reason for getting up in the morning, it takes effort. It is not always easy to will your body out of the comfort of bed. If this is an issue that you deal with regularly, it may be time to evaluate some things in your life. We understand that it is important to take care of ourselves, but what does that really mean?

There are many factors that go into taking care of yourself, such as speaking kind words to yourself, going to sleep at a decent time so you can fully let your body rest, setting boundaries, fueling your body with the right foods, drinking enough water, giving yourself time to decompress, etc. You have to listen to your body– it is likely already telling you what it needs. If you want to lead a fulfilling life, you have to take care of yourself first. You cannot perform at your best if you’re too hungry, too tired, too stressed, or burnt out. 

Start gradually implementing habits that keep you happy and healthy. Before you know it, getting out of bed in the morning will become significantly easier. You can learn to stop dreading the alarm. Sure, we say we want to stay in bed all day, but how fulfilling would that be, really? I imagine the first day would be nice and relaxing, but by the third day, you would probably be bored. What is important is that you find a balance. That is true for most things in life. Too much of something can be just as detrimental as not enough of it. Rest when you’re tired, move when you’re able, and prioritize your mental and physical health. In order to become the best version of yourself, you have to want it.
