As we approach the end of June, we are getting close to halfway through the calendar year. Not only is this a time to reflect on how business has been up until this point, it is a time for adjusting your organization’s strategy for the remainder of the year. You want to ensure you are on track for achieving the goals you set at the beginning of the year or reevaluate your priorities. This is also a time when you need to be very intentional about employee engagement, morale, and commitment. Think of this review as a mid-year momentum check.

These evaluations should be performed within departments and as an organization as a whole. It is important to understand where you are at in your goals for the year. Sometimes priorities shift, so what you thought was important in January may be irrelevant at this point in the year. Other times, you just lose sight of what you originally set out to accomplish, so this is an opportunity to realign your strategy.

Something that I have found helpful in my own life is to keep a vision board of sorts. I have a list of my personal goals, my professional goals, and my hopes for the year ahead. I also like to pick out a theme or motto for the year, such as “accept the good” and “be the change” or a simple word like “perspective” or “gratitude.” I keep this board visible in my office as a reminder to be intentional with my time and efforts.

I also like to write out my main objectives for the week and review what I accomplished the previous week. If there is a task that is unfinished, I can work it into my schedule for the current week. Timeblocking is really helpful so that you never get overwhelmed while working on a project. Schedule specific tasks with breaks in between, and you will find that it is easier to maintain your momentum.

I want you to think about the reason that you set your goals at the beginning of the year. What is it that you hoped to become in achieving those goals? What was your “why,” and are you still pursuing it? Take some time to reacquaint yourself with your goals, and don’t be afraid to let go of what is no longer important. The middle of the year is the perfect time to assess your progress, adjust your strategy, and reignite your energy as a team.
